Black Women who Mentor (BWM)

Purple Sheep Consulting specializes in mentoring and coaching underrepresented groups. For example, did you know Black women in the U.S. make 58 cents for every $1 earned by a white male and 21% less than white women? A study by Lean In showed this pay discrepancy; however, there is a way for Black women to get paid and advance their careers—mentorship.   

This is especially important for Black women who are on constant guard. Black women are often Hypervisible for negative stereotypes and Invisible for noteworthy achievements. Black Women who Mentor is here to fill the gap of resources needed to connect Black women to build a community of support for personal and professional growth. 

Our mentors are from every race and gender, committed to helping our mentees succeed and progress to the next stage in their personal and professional lives. Many black women experience challenges in identifying someone to lift them and pull them forward in their careers because finding a mentor isn't easy. We want to be in the presence of greatness to learn how to maximize our potential. Mentorship is one of the critical ingredients many say is needed to move forward in your career. It's the secret sauce most search for as we navigate to build our brands and businesses.  

Why Is Black Female Mentorship So Important? 

The answer is that there's something distinctive about being mentored by someone who understands your daily challenges. A Black female mentor can offer advice and experience to women from underrepresented groups, helping them feel genuinely understood. Representation matters! They can be confident in the knowledge, skills, and experience their mentor has in the field that will launch them personally and professionally. While our focus is on Black women and underrepresented groups, everyone is welcome! Everyone! 💜
